Founder & Lead Consultant

Kevin Alexander

With a background in sports turf management and ecology, Kevin’s skills and passion for sustainability lead to the founding of SoilSense, to help individuals, small farms, and public spaces come together to create positive environmental and agricultural change through healthy soil.

Earning his degree in Environmental Studies & Sustainability from Rowan University, he began his career as a naturalist, collaborating with Rowan University and the surrounding county park system. After years of field research in ecology, entomology, and sustainability, he joined the first-ever class at the Maryland Sports Institute, with a mission to promote and expand the use of natural grass turf for high-use athletic fields.

Kevin used this opportunity to delve deeper into the science of soil in an on-the-job setting. The collection and analysis of data led to an understanding that widespread soil health is a complex, evolving puzzle that can be nearly solved, but takes consistent care and a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

Now working for the Parks & Recreation department for the City of Frederick, maintaining and protecting park land, Kevin is dedicated to helping Maryland residents, farmers, and businesses get more out of their land—fuller, greener grass, higher-yield crops, and safer, more vibrant community spaces.
